We are looking for a skilled Spray Finisher & PU Sprayer to join our creative production team.  Working on high-end experiential builds, immersive environments, props, and themed installations, you will have a strong eye for finish quality. 

This role requires someone who can deliver flawless, durable, and visually stunning finishes across a variety of surfaces and materials in a fast-paced, creative setting. 

You will have creative flexibility, the ability to work fast and clean under pressure and extensive experience spraying large scale objects.

Skills & Competencies:

• Minimum 3 years’ spray finishing experience, ideally in scenic fabrication, prop building, theatre, film sets, or experiential production

• Extensive spray finish experience of large-scale objects

• Ability to apply both water and solvent based paint finishes to fibreglass, metals, wood, MDF, plastics etc with consistent, high-end result

• Proficient with HVLP / airless spray systems and PU spray coatings

• Able to apply and shape body filler to achieve both flat and curved surfaces

• Ability to interpret design intent and contribute to achieving complex or unusual finishes (e.g distressed, aged, hyper-realistic)

• Excellent attention to detail and quality of finish.  Obsessed with smooth, high-spec finishes and an eagle eye for imperfections

• Ability to work in a safe manner following health, safety, environment and quality guidelines/instructions

• Ability to carry out and record routine maintenance checks

Key Tasks:

• Surface prep (sanding, cleaning, priming, masking) and spray finishing of metal, MDF, fibreglass, timber, plastics etc

• Apply high-quality polyurethane finishes using HVLP and air-assisted spray systems, including base coats, topcoats, and specialist finishes

• Spraying both small scale, but predominantly large scale objects

• Work from scenic briefs, mood boards, or reference images to achieve unique finishes (e.g matte, gloss, metallics, texture effects)

• Mix paints to exact colour specs or visual references, including custom tints and effects to achieve consistent finishes

• Oversee and maintain H&S of spray room and PU spray system

• Oversee maintenance of spray room, PU spray system, air fed mask and all other spray equipment

• Maintain clean and safe working environment

• Collaborate closely with other creative departments (including metalwork, carpentry, scenic art, mould making etc) and project management team

• Schedule works into the spray shop and deliver projects in a timely manner

• Assist with quotations, estimating labour and materials

The Head of Production / Production Director will oversee and coordinate the production processes. This role requires exceptional organisational skills, technical knowledge of creative fabrication processes, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality builds on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator and leader, with a strong background in construction within the creative sector (e.g theatre, set building, film sets, exhibitions, live events, theming etc).

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning and Coordination:

o   Lead internal production, senior management & client meetings

o   Develop and manage production schedules & processes to meet delivery deadlines

o   Lead the team to solve clashes or gaps in the production schedule in a timely manner

o   Oversee project timelines and communicate progress to board

o   Allocate resources, including staff, materials, and equipment, to maximize efficiency and quality.

o   Evaluate requirements for external skills (freelancers/contract staff) and notify HR in a timely manner of contract start and end dates

o   Work alongside Workshop Administrator to allocate production space to each project

o   Support Sales and Development teams in the procurement of projects

Team Leadership and Management:

o   Supervise and motivate the workforce (comprised of modelmakers, art dept, carpenters, metalworkers, mould makers etc)

Budget and Resource Management:

o   Monitor production costs and ensure projects stay within budget

o   Assist crews to pull together comprehensive site kit

o   Advise on the sourcing of materials, tools, and equipment, maintaining stock levels as needed

Innovation and Process Improvement:

o   Identify opportunities to improve production techniques and workflows

o   Introduce and implement new technologies, tools, or methods to enhance productivity

Client Interaction:

o   Work closely with the sales, design, PM teams to understand client requirements

Essential Skills and Experience

Creative Construction Experience & Technical Knowledge:

o   Strong understanding of creative build processes, techniques, and materials (e.g carpentry, metalwork, 3D printing, laser cutting, moulding, painting, assembly)

o   Familiarity with machinery and tools commonly used (e.g. metalwork, carpentry, CNC machines, 3D printers)

o   Ability to read construction drawings and to navigate CAD software

The role would suit those with a background in large scale set/scenic builds, bespoke bar/restaurant fit outs, events and exhibitions.

Working predominantly from our premises in Bristol, the role will require occasional site installation work.

Essential:

• Minimum of 3 years professional carpentry experience

• Portfolio of work that can demonstrate suitability for the role

• Knowledge of materials and processes

• Ability to construct bespoke pieces in a timely yet durable manner
